No you do not have to have your own horse to take lessons with Mark. We have an excellent and accomplished lesson horse for you to learn on. Please make sure to select the lesson horse option when booking your lesson

Booking lessons is easy! Click on one of the Book A Lesson buttons above and it will redirect you to our booking site where you can select your desired day and time and book a lesson after you create an account.

Yes! Mark is happy to teach reiners of all levels from beginner to advanced. Riders just need to be able to comfortably walk, jog, and lope to start working with Mark.

Not yet. For riders who have never ridden or do not know how to walk, jog, lope yet we are still establishing a beginner riding program, which will have a different instructor. Please feel free to message us and get onto our waitlist.

Absolutely! We are happy to welcome haul-in lesson clients for both private and group lessons. Please make sure that your current coggins is on file with the office by emailing jessica@howreining.com

Yes. Coaching is available at shows to clients currently in weekly lessons or with horses in training. Please see our Training and Showing page for a current calendar of shows.

Yes. Arena rentals are available for $20/horse/day if you would like to come ride even on days when you do not have lessons.

For those using a lesson horse you do not need to own your own tack as tack is included. For those hauling in please bring your own appropriate tack. If you have any questions, pleased reach out to us before your lesson.

While we do not require a helmet during lessons, you are always welcome to wear one. You will need to provide your own helmet that fits correctly. If you are looking to purchase one we recommend Dennards which is just 5 minutes from the ranch.

Proper attire is important to give you the best lesson experience. Please wear cowboy boots with a leather or rubber sole, no crepe soles, that come to atleast your mid calf. You will also need comfortable jeans that touch the floor when standing (this way when you ride the jean does not ride up over your boot), and a comfortbale, well fitting top (loose clothing can become caught on the saddle).

If you need to purchase cloths we highly recommend Dennards, just a 5 minute drive from the ranch, and we are happy to meet clients there to help them select riding attire.

Mark’s Coaching Philosophy

1. Foster passion for the sport

Instill a passion for the sport of reining in all students

2. Teach good horsemanship

All students first and foremost need to know about being the best steward for their horse

3. Set Goals

Mark wants his students to dream big. He encourages students to set goals both big and small to give them something to work towards.

4. Make Plans

Plan to work and work to plan. The first part of reining is to learn the basics of the sport, the second part is to further that learning by working towards goals.

5. Reach Goals

Big or small MHPH loves to celebrate students reaching thier goals! We are always so proud of all of our students and whether they just completed their first pattern on course or just marked a 219.5 in major competition, we love to celebrate each of their milestones!

6. Have Fun!

Most importantly Mark wants to make sure that students are having fun. Learning how to rein is hard work, but at the end of the day it’s important to Mark that all of his clients are having a good time.
